Lori Bakken, UW ICTR Assistant Director
Lori L. Bakken, MS, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Affiliate Associate Professor in the School of Education (Departments of Counseling Psychology and Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis). As an Assistant Director for ICTR, she provides leadership for the educational programs that are administered by the Research Education and Career Development Core. She serves on the National CTSA Education and Career Development Key Function Committee.
Her research focuses on determining key variables that influence learning and successful career development of clinical researchers. As part of a federally-funded project, she developed an inventory to assess clinical research self-efficacy that is being used across the nation by leading academic medical centers and she has published numerous manuscripts in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals.
In 2007, Dr. Bakken received the Department of Medicine’s Puestow Research Award for her significant research contributions toward advancing the field of medicine. Dr. Bakken received her BS in Medical Technology (1980), MS in Medical Microbiology and Immunology (1991) and PhD in Continuing and Vocational Education (1998) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has served as a member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Board of Directors for the Association of Clinical Research Training and was a member of the national Evaluation Liaisons Committee for the NIH K12 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development training awards.
