The Pilot Awards Program RFAs for projects beginning in July 1, 2018 were released November 1, 2017. This release date is one month earlier than in recent years and has been adjusted to better fit the typical schedules of both applicants and reviewers.
Peggy Hatfield, ICTR Program Manager for Translational Basic and Clinical Research Pilot Awards, comments,
We found that our schedule needed to be revised to accommodate both the time off that many applicants take during the winter academic break and also to give us additional time to find non-conflicted expert reviewers. Given the collaborative nature of research on the UW campus, it has been taking more time to recruit appropriate faculty for peer review of pilot award applications.
Another new feature this year is the incorporation of the NIH revised instructions for reviewing clinical trials into the pilot award review criteria. These criteria will be mandatory for applicants to NIH funding opportunities starting Jan 25, 2018. The ICTR award programs will likewise instruct local reviewers to use these additional considerations as part of their review.
RFAs released Nov 1 include Translational Basic and Clinical Research, Clinical and Community Outcomes Research (CCOR), Dissemination and Implementation (D&I) Research, and Stakeholder and Patient Engaged Research (SPER). These awards span the full spectrum of clinical and translational research. More information and complete application instructions are found on the Funding Opportunities page.
