As of Sept. 17, 2024, ICTR is pleased to announce the release of Requests for Application for four pilot award programs:
- Clinical and Community Outcomes Research (CCOR): for health research that solves problems translating knowledge into improvements in clinical practice, community programs and health policy
- Collaborative Health Equity Research (CHER): for mentored projects conducted by either postdoctoral scholars (Track 1) or assistant professors (Track 2)
- Dissemination & Implementation Research (D&I): for research that brings evidence-based interventions to clinical and community health practice settings
- Patient Engaged Partnership Research (PEPR): for pilots to develop reciprocal relationships between patients, communities, and other partners with researchers
The earliest project start date for each of these opportunities is April 1, 2025.
Required letters of intent are due Oct. 29, 2024. A required pre-submission session (offered via Canvas, with a link to be announced soon) and an optional live Q&A session held on Zoom will give potential applicants a chance to learn more about these funding opportunities and how to craft a strong letter of intent and, if invited, full application.
“We are so proud to be able to offer this support for pilot research projects that center on direct community and/or patient engagement to advance health equity,” said Pilot Awards Program Manager Bri Deyo, MPH.
“These awards, in conjunction with structured training and supports, enable investigators to learn and apply best practices in community engagement, research methods, and design for equitable dissemination and sustainability,” said Dr. Chris Sorkness, ICTR’s Senior Associate Executive Director, who also directs the Pilot Awards Program.

Funding for the pilot awards is provided by the UW–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health from the Wisconsin Partnership Program, which supports research, education, and community engagement with the goal of improving health and advancing health equity among Wisconsinites.
