To our affiliates who may not be familiar with the Covering Wisconsin (CWI) program housed within the UW School of Human Ecology, this is an incredible resource that has only become more vital in the current climate of the COVID-19 public health crisis.
CWI is a community health insurance outreach program that connects Wisconsin residents with and promotes effective use of health insurance coverage and other programs (Medicaid, BadgerCare, and the ACA Marketplace). They are the only federally funded and licensed health insurance navigator agency in the state, and an excellent repository of expertise for rapid response to requests you may field for technical assistance/presentations (instruction of students, others) on insurance coverage and related topics, as well as support for students and staff regarding personal access to coverage and care.
Of particular mission-aligned relevance to CCHE: CWI serves a diverse vulnerable client base and important entities entrusted to serve these communities including refugee resettlement; prison/jail re-entry; aging and disability resource centers; houses of worship; rapid response teams for laid-off workers; job centers; veteran’s affairs; free/low-cost clinics; shelters; colleges/universities; Wisconsin Extension; charity centers; tax assistance; pantries; farmer worker health coalitions; barbershops/hair salons; local/state/federal government; etc). CCHE team members have recently encountered CWI team members at campus and community events – it’s only natural that we’d want to spread the word to you and ask your help with ensuring that those who need insurance coverage support and/or technical assistance are made aware of the services that CWI offers.
CWI has office locations in Madison and Milwaukee and a skilled team of Navigators spread across the state.
