September 17, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Meet Author and Patient Advocate, Mary Elizabeth Williams
Thu, Sep 17, 2020 (ONLINE/VIRTUAL EVENT)
Mary Elizabeth Williams is a journalist, patient advocate, and author, most recently of A Series of Catastrophes and Miracles: A True Story of Love, Science, and Cancer, which chronicles her experience as a clinical trial participant. Ms. Williams was diagnosed in her early 40s with stage IV metastatic melanoma. Her clinical care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York eventually led her to enroll in one of the earlier immunotherapy clinical trials. Her widely acclaimed book gives an intimate account of her experience dealing with her cancer diagnosis and recurrence, and her journey through the clinical trial experience. WCG has arranged for Ms. Williams to address the University of Wisconsin Medical Center Community about her experiences, followed by a Q&A session. There is no cost for this event.

Who is the Clinical Research Personnel Community of Practice (CoP)?
Don’t worry if you are wondering why you haven’t heard of us – we’re new!
The UW defines Communities of Practice as “….. groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and seek to learn how to do it better through regular interaction.” Our CoP is a network of clinical research personnel, like you, coming together to share knowledge, resources, and best practices about clinical research at UW-Madison. We will be sharing information with you regularly in the Clinical Trials newsletter, as well as hosting networking and educational events. In addition, we are working on a virtual location for sharing resources, and we plan to expand the group offerings based on what you and other participants want out of it. This is your community, so we want to extend a welcome to all of you as we build this as place to learn, share ideas, and support one another. We are so pleased to invite you to our inaugural event and hope you will all be able to attend!
