MCRI Scientific Seminar: “Monkeypox: US Origin Story and Current Clinical Outbreak”

You are invited to our next MCRI Scientific Seminar series presentation, Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 12:05 pm.  Dr. Erik Stratman will present “Monkeypox: US Origin Story and Current Clinical Outbreak.”

In 2003, Dr Stratman was part of the discovery team of the first reported case of Monkeypox in the western hemisphere. Monkeypox was first reported in the Western Hemisphere at the Marshfield Clinic in 2003.  In 2022, a new outbreak of monkeypox occurred again in the United States and around the world.  The comparison of the epidemiology, demographics, clinical manifestations, government and public responses, and outcomes of the infections will be explored.

Erik Stratman is the chairman and system specialty lead for dermatology for Marshfield Clinic Health System. He received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, summa cum laude and medical degree, magna cum laude from the University of Missouri Columbia. He is the former president of the American Board of Dermatology, the former chairman of the Council on Education for the American Academy of Dermatology, former chairman of the Dermatology Review Committee for the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, and former Associate Dean for the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
