Recent Recognitions of UW Community Relationship Builders

Orranta StricklandCCHE would like to congratulate two UW colleagues who have recently been recognized: Leslie Orrantia and Rick Strickland ~

Leslie Orrantia
Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced that Leslie Orrantia will join her office as Deputy Mayor as of May 15, 2019. Ms. Orrantia has been the UW Director of Community Relations since 2016, serving as the primary UW contact with county, city and community entities. She previously worked as the Assistant Director for the Wisconsin Collaborative Education Research Network within the UW School of Education.

In her new role as Deputy Mayor, Ms. Orrantia will be responsible for aspects of economic development, public health and transportation in addition to “building regional relationships for the long-term growth and sustainability of our larger region.” Read more about Ms. Orrantia’s new deputy mayor role via The Cap Times here.

Rick Strickland
Nine UW–Madison professionals are being recognized with 2019 Academic Staff Excellence Awards for outstanding leadership, public service, research, teaching and career achievement. Rick Strickland, Director of the Cancer Health Disparities Initiative in the UW Carbone Cancer Center, is receiving the Robert and Carroll Heideman Award for Excellence in Public Service and Outreach.

Mr. Strickland has advanced cancer prevention and education among underserved and diverse communities across the state using a network of outreach collaborations. Read more about Mr. Strickland’s contributions to the University in the UW News piece here.
