Rob Lemanske, MD

Robert F. Lemanske, Jr., MD, Deputy Executive Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is also Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). Dr. Lemanske is the Director of the Translational Workforce Development and Education Program within ICTR and assists the Executive Director, Dr. Drezner, in his role as Director of the Research Infrastructure Program. Their roles within ICTR are complementary to enhance the overall clinical and translational initiatives of ICTR.

Dr. Lemanske has a long history at UW-Madison. After completing his undergraduate and MD degrees here, he served as an intern and resident in pediatrics, and then completed a fellowship in allergy and immunology. Following a two-year research fellowship at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, he returned to join the SMPH faculty and rapidly developed a national reputation as a highly productive and innovative academician.

His research interests include pathophysiology and treatment of asthma including mechanisms underlying pulmonary late phase reactions; virus-induced airway dysfunction; asthma inception in infants and young children; and contributions of both genetic (atopy) and environmental (viral infections) factors on the origins of asthma and allergic disease in a birth cohort (COAST study – Childhood Origins of ASThma). He helped create SAMPRO™, a School-based Asthma Management Program, during his presidential year with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
