Position title: Community Outreach Specialist, All of Us Research Program
Leslie McAbee, PhD, is a Community Outreach Specialist for the All of Us Research Program (Milwaukee site). With experience as a community engagement professional in higher education, McAbee has developed and deepened mutually beneficial relationships between community-based organizations and higher education institutions. She most recently served as director of the Center for Community Engagement at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee.
McAbee’s educational history as a researcher and instructor in American literature informs her approach to community engagement, strengthening her aptitude for listening to, learning about, and advocating for communities and the stories they choose to share. As a former instructor of composition courses, she has also incorporated Community-Engaged Learning into course design. The process of recognizing and appreciating specific contexts for and invitations to community work sustains her work with local agencies and community members.
McAbee received a PhD and MA in English, both from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a BA in English and Romance Languages, summa cum laude, from the University of Georgia.
