Jennifer Smith

Jennifer Smith, ICTR Communications Manager, has spent her career in higher education, research and nonprofit environments. She enjoys connecting people with ideas and initiatives that improve people’s lives.

Before joining ICTR in 2022, she was most recently with Wisconsin Sea Grant, part of a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs in Great Lakes and coastal states. There, she used a range of tools to share Sea Grant’s efforts in research, outreach and education with a wide range of audiences. Those tools included news releases; websites and social media; print and online publications—and even a science-themed mural commissioned from a trio of Wisconsin artists.

Prior to Sea Grant, she served as the first Communications Manager for the UW-Madison Department of Computer Sciences, where she wrote about innovative faculty and student research, planned annual alumni engagement events, and aided efforts to recruit a broader pool of students to the field. Other roles have included positions at PBS Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (B.A.) and University of Wisconsin-Madison (M.A.).
