Yang’s thesis work will center on identifying and characterizing the novel genes that are responsible for the earliest defects in beta cell biology that lead to Type I diabetes mellitus. Her ultimate goal is to understand the pathophysiology of the beta cell in diabetes, and ultimately identify potential therapeutic agents. She is a PhD Student in Nutritional Sciences under the mentorship of Dawn Davis, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine.
