Gabriel Zayas-Cabán, PhD, Assistant Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering, will investigate “The Average Effect of Emergency Department Admission Decisions for Older Adults with Chest Pain, Abdominal Pain, or Syncope.” This project will measure the impact of disposition decisions on outcomes in older adults presenting with a set of chief complaints associated with high variability in admission rates. Key questions include: (i) will a decision to admit a patient or observe a patient further improve their outcomes and (ii) will this decision affect other patients due to ED crowding.
Zayas-Caban’s KL2 mentors are Drs. Maureen Smith, MD, MPH, PhD, and Brian Patterson, MD, MPH.
