Overview
Institutional policy requires that applications reviewed by the IRB undergo scientific review commensurate with the level of risk of the study. Because the level of risk is generally higher for studies reviewed by the Health Sciences IRB, ICTR operates two Scientific Review Committees (SRC) that assess the scientific merit of investigator-initiated, non-oncology, human subjects research submitted to the Health Sciences IRB that has not already undergone peer review by another entity. Studies that meet the requirements for ICTR SRC review are automatically routed to the SRC when the application is submitted in ARROW. However, either the Health Sciences or Minimal Risk Research IRB may request review of any study by the ICTR SRC if additional scientific review is warranted.
This guidance describes the ICTR SRC process and general criteria for exclusion from ICTR SRC review, including a list of study procedures that may excuse an application from ICTR SRC review.
