The UW–Madison Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is pleased to announce four winners of its new award for faculty mentorship, intended to be given annually. Each recipient received a prize of $1,000 and was honored individually at a meeting of her or his department.
The 2024 winners of the UW ICTR Faculty Mentorship Award are:
- Dorothy Farrar-Edwards, PhD, Department of Kinesiology, School of Education
- Olayinka Shiyanbola, PhD, formerly of the School of Pharmacy (now at the University of Michigan)
- Jim Stein, MD, Department of Medicine, School of Medicine & Public Health
- Corinne Voils, PhD, Department of Surgery, School of Medicine & Public Health
ICTR Executive Director Dr. Allan Brasier commented, “We see mentorship of faculty as the cornerstone for innovation, success, satisfaction, peer recognition and retention of our outstanding investigators engaged in innovative clinical and translational research at UW–Madison.”
The four awardees were chosen from a strong pool of nominees. Award selection criteria were aligned with recommendations from the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) 2019 consensus report on the science of effective mentorship.
Said ICTR Executive Co-Director Dr. Beth Burnside, “Through this award, our goal is to recognize those who have contributed to the career and personal growth of clinical and translational research faculty through mentorship practices that are intentional, culturally responsive, and evidence-based.”
ICTR will announce a new call for nominations for the UW ICTR Faculty Mentorship Award in early 2025 (most likely January or February). Stay tuned for details on the ICTR website, ICTR social media (LinkedIn and X), and communications through ICTR’s UW partner schools/colleges.
