About
Melissa McDaniels, PhD, is a Scientist with the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, co-investigator with the National Research Mentoring Network and Associate Executive Director at the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) at UW. She is a co-investigator and community advancement manager for the NIH-supported National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN). She directs the ICTR-supported CTSA+ Community of Practice on Advancing the Science and Practice of Mentorship and delivers the yearly Facilitating Entering Mentoring workshop hosted by ICTR for the CTSA community.
Prior to coming to UW-Madison, she held leadership roles in the graduate school and postdoctoral office at Michigan State University, as well as directed Michigan State University’s NSF ADVANCE Grant where she spearheaded the institution’s efforts to diversify the faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
McDaniels is a social scientist with over 25 years of experience supporting equity-centered organizational change, graduate student and faculty development, and undergraduate teaching and learning. She has had the pleasure of doing research and consulting domestically and internationally. McDaniels holds degrees from Michigan State University (Ph.D.), Boston College (M.A.), and the University of Michigan (B.A.).
