Evaluating Mentor Training
To support the standardized evaluation of mentor training, an evaluation survey has been developed to collect information on mentor background, training satisfaction, changes in behavior, and skill gains. The survey includes some validated scales and is designed to be administered post training to mentors who participate in Entering Mentoring-based mentor training.
Below are two survey formats available for download. Facilitators are invited to use this survey free of charge. Note: Users will not be able to open QSF files on their computer; instead, QSF files are meant to be downloaded and imported into Qualtrics (see import instructions here).
Mentee survey: A parallel mentee survey has also been developed that can be administered to the mentees of trained mentors to further assess training impact. Mentees who complete the survey retrospectively rate their mentor’s skills both before the training and after the training and note any changes in their mentor’s mentoring practices. A preview of the mentee survey is available via Qualtrics.
Centralized evaluation of Entering Mentoring-based mentor training is also available through the Center for Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER) for the following groups with additional funding as indicated below:
- Trained Facilitators affiliated with an National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) (supported by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Institute for Clinical and Translational Research grant #UL1TR002373; contact Kim Spencer (kcspencer2@wisc.edu) to learn more
