About

The ICTR Pilot Awards Program provides funds to UW-Madison Investigators for research activities intended to inform subsequent external funding proposals. The Pilot Awards Program also supports research partnerships between UW-Madison and the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute. This program directly supports ICTR’s goal of fostering the development of investigator-initiated translational research that addresses health disparities and promotes health equity.

Several awards are released annually, each with specific criteria for translational stage (basic, preclinical, clinical, implementation, public health) and/or investigator career stage, including those with emphasis on early-stage research mentorship in support of future career development, interdisciplinary collaborations, or community-partnered health research. The RFAs are “disease-agnostic” and invite projects that address critical and emerging health needs.

Requests for Applications (RFAs) are released throughout the calendar year. Full details are available on the Funding Opportunities page.

Funding for ICTR Pilot awards is made possible through grants from local donors at UW School of Medicine and Public Health, the Wisconsin Partnership Program, and the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program.
