Keynote Presentation
Lessons learned from a career filled with course corrections, U-turns, flat tires, and engine failure

Geoffrey M. Curran, PhD
Director, Center for Implementation Research at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Dr. Curran will discuss his experiences in dealing with adversity in a research-based academic career. From lessons usually learned the hard way, he will share ideas for making course corrections (or more serious “salvage” operations) when studies, or entire research agendas, encounter challenges. He will also share ideas on how to prevent problems from surfacing in the first place. In addition to more practical tips/advice, Dr. Curran will also discuss foundational concepts of resilience, values, and growth when it comes to navigating 1) a career in science, and 2) a whole life in which one is trying to be a good scientist.
