Mentorship has been central to UW–Madison’s Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) since its inception. Through efforts led by our Mentorship Initiatives team in partnership with CIMER, ICTR helps advance the science and practice of mentorship across campus and nationally. ICTR also strives to develop a broad, multidisciplinary clinical and translational research workforce through mentored career development programs that support scholars at every stage of their careers.
As we celebrate National Mentoring Day on Oct. 27, we recognize the mentors who have shaped the careers of ICTR scholars and all those committed to improving their practices through evidence-based mentor and mentee training.
Since 2016, 934 faculty have engaged in mentor training at UW–Madison, including 248 through ICTR. Among faculty and staff trained through ICTR, 196 are from the School of Medicine and Public Health, representing 36 departments. The remaining 52 faculty and staff members come from 44 departments across seven different schools and colleges.
To further elevate excellence in mentorship, ICTR created the UW ICTR Faculty Mentorship Award, which recognizes faculty who have contributed to the career and personal growth of clinical and translational researchers through intentional, evidence-based mentorship practices. This National Mentoring Day, we encourage you to honor the mentors who have contributed to and made an impact on your development and career.
